I really should have said at the time: we won the European Team Pursuit title a couple days ago! Huzzah!
Myself, Elinor Barker, Laura Trott, Ciara Horne and Joanna Rowsell went home with a new jersey and some metal work (no stuffed toy, sad face). Would have slept in the jersey but it's too hot here; I sleep with a sheet so as not to offend my room mate but could really go without.
We'll just kind of skim over the points race... it went pretty poorly. I was struggling with positioning for the sprints early on, so I went for a long one to get points after which the break went. There was five of us, me kind of hanging like a bogey on the back and fecked from the sprint. We went through two more sprints, each time I was temporarily dropped but hopeful we'd get the lap. But nay, we were pulled back and I had gained nothing from the venture. Bum.
I finished like 16th I think? Put a slight downer on the night but, ya know what, we're still Euro champs so.. yeah...
Now we make it to today. I'm just about to have lunch. This morning I qualified fastest for the Individual Pursuit. I have a 3 second cushion on the second fastest qualifier but it's all about backing up.
The Celt in me is panicking slightly about the heat and how I'll deal with recovery, but the hopeless optimist in me feels good about my chances. Let's not over think it, I'm off for some feeding and watering.
